Driving ESG Excellence Together: An Inside Look at Our Partnership with Lost Shore Surf Resort
We’re excited to share a new interview with Alejandro Padró Marsal, the Impact & ESG Manager at Lost Shore Surf Resort, exploring how our collaboration has fostered innovative sustainability initiatives and advanced both organisations’ environmental and social goals.
From powering Lost Shore’s waterfront accommodation units with renewable energy, to developing robust carbon and waste reduction strategies, our partnership is rooted in a shared commitment to responsible growth. Alejandro’s insights reveal how pragmatic day-to-day operations—like utilising high-efficiency Armadilla units—can lead to long-term sustainable impact and offer lessons in resilience and collaboration.
Check out the full interview to learn more about the frameworks, success stories, and future opportunities that continue to make sustainability a driving force in our partnership.
Can you share how the partnership between Lost Shore Surf Resort and Armadilla came about, and how it has contributed to your overall sustainability goals?
Our founder Andy knew about Armadilla thanks to a contact from his other business, a coworking space in North Berwick called The Lighthouse. When Andy went to check them out, soon after Armadilla getting the Queen’s Award for Innovation, he fell in love with the units and the fact that it was a local family business, like Lost Shore, made it a perfect fit for the project. Armadilla units incorporate advanced tech and Passive house principles to make them very efficient. This, combined to the fact that they are fully powered by REGO backed renewable energy helps us in our quest to be as sustainable as possible.
In your role as Impact & ESG Manager, what strategies or frameworks have been most effective in driving collaborative sustainability efforts between our two organisations?
For us, the key for becoming more sustainable is working to put in place solutions that will make a difference in the everyday operation, instead of relying on offsetting negative impact in the future. On this front, one of the main things for Lost Shore is powering the site with green energy, and to do so, you need to be able to use that energy for what you need. Thanks to the fact that our Armadilla units are fully electric and very efficient, we can power all our waterfront accommodation sustainably.
How do the Environmental and Social Management Systems you’ve implemented at Lost Shore Surf Resort align with our joint initiatives, such as carbon and waste reduction plans?
We are basically in the same page! At Lost Shore, carbon and waste are two key elements to consider and we have been monitoring them every six months since we started building the resort in 2022. With the facility now open, we are gathering data to create our baseline emissions and waste generation levels, with the scope of developing projects to reduce them in the future. And this is not only true for carbon and waste, but for other ESG related KPIs too.
Could you highlight a specific success story or significant achievement that resulted from our joint commitment to environmental and social responsibility?
I think that the best example of our joint commitment was how when Armadilla was going through a difficult moment, Lost Shore stayed and helped, instead of moving away. The great products that Armadilla has created and our joint vision, helped to solidify this relationship that now everyone can enjoy in the form of a world class facility in the outskirts of Edinburgh.
Looking ahead, what do you see as the next big challenge or opportunity for both of our organisations to continue driving ESG excellence through partnership?
With Lost Shore up and running and people loving the stays in the Armadilla units, the world is our oyster! If the site in Edinburgh ends up being the first of many, Armadilla could well continue to help deliver a quality, sustainable stay with views to perfect waves!
