SCOPE: Design, manufacture and delivery of a bespoke cabin

A small space designed to make a big difference

Tiny Changes is Scotland's first national youth mental health charity, working with young people to create projects and initiatives that help young minds feel better. Founded in memory of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, the charity champions youth-led solutions and creates safe spaces where young people can thrive.

Created in partnership with Tiny Changes and designed by S+Co, the Tiny Changes Wellbeing Cabin was developed to support the emotional wellbeing of young people within a school environment. Located at Leith Walk Primary School in Edinburgh, the cabin provides a calm, welcoming retreat where pupils can step away from the demands of the school day and reconnect with themselves.

Armadilla was responsible for designing and manufacturing the bespoke cabin, transforming an ambitious vision into a thoughtfully crafted space that feels safe, restorative and connected to nature. Designed to operate off-grid, the cabin is powered by an integrated solar panel system, allowing it to function independently while minimising its environmental impact.

Developed through a child-led design process, the cabin incorporates features inspired by the pupils themselves, including artwork integrated into the external cladding. Today, it supports wellbeing sessions, quiet reflection, pastoral care and informal activities, demonstrating how carefully considered design can create a lasting impact far beyond its footprint.

WHY ARMADILLA

Creating a wellbeing space for young people requires more than simply providing four walls and a roof. It demands thoughtful design, careful craftsmanship and a deep understanding of how spaces can influence the way people feel.

Armadilla was selected to design and manufacture the Tiny Changes Wellbeing Cabin because of our ability to create high-quality, purpose-built spaces that balance practicality, durability and comfort. Working closely with the wider project team, we transformed an ambitious vision into a welcoming environment designed to support reflection, connection and emotional wellbeing.

Manufactured in Scotland and built to stand the test of time, the cabin demonstrates how considered design can help create meaningful experiences and lasting positive impact within a community.
