FAQ's

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about our Armadillas.

How many people can an Armadilla studio accommodate?

This will depend on the age of the occupants and the use of the Armadilla. As an example an A14 Armadilla will comfortable seat up to 12 adults round a table.

We are very short of space at our site. Where could we put an Armadilla?

One of the attractions of the Armadilla is that with its integral steel frame it does not require formal foundations. It can sit in areas otherwise unusable – under trees, sloping or rough ground. It can also be craned in to inner courtyards. A free site survey is carried out as part of the service.

What costs are involved?

In addition to the cost of the selected Armadilla pod(s), there are 2 other costs involved.
• Site preparation (typically) £300 • Electrical connection (typically) £300
These figures are purely indicative and would be subject to a site survey.

Do Armadillas need planning permission?

Generally, Armadillas will not require planning permission, but we do advise that you check with your local authority first.

Do Armadillas comply with Building Regulations?

Armadillas are outwith the scope of Building Regulations as they have a floor area less than 15 sq m.(below which Building Regulations do not apply) However, they are in fact constructed to meet all current regulatory requirements.

Can you act as main contractor?

Yes – we can offer a full turnkey service.

Could we use our existing contractors for site work?

Yes. We can provide detailed instructions for site preparation.

What about electrical connection?

All Armadillas are fitted with an electrical consumer unit and are independently tested to BS7671. A qualified electrician must connect the Armadilla to a mains supply. The Armadillas will be prewired for data and telephone if this was required and connection made via a simple external junction box.

How are Armadillas delivered?

We will make all arrangements for the delivery and installation of your Armadilla. We deliver by flat bed lorry or trailer and install using a forklift, lorry-mounted or standard crane.

Can you deliver outside normal working hours?

If necessary we can arrange delivery to suit particular requirements including after hours, weekends and holiday periods. The actual physical installation typically will take less than one hour from start to finish.

Can Armadillas be relocated?

Absolutely! They are not permanent structures and are specifically designed so that they can be readily lifted by forklift or crane.

What about maintenance?

Apart from a wash down in the spring with warm soapy water to get rid of any winter gunge the Armadilla should not require further external maintenance for a period of 2 to 3 years. All our coatings are designed for the severe climate found in Scandinavian countries and this is the anticipated recoating period of these high quality products.

Do Armadillas have a warranty.

Yes. We provide a one year guarantee on everything covering workmanship or defective materials. In addition we provide a 10 year structural warranty. (We really expect them to go on for decades!)

Is the Armadilla environmentally friendly?

Unlike so many products these days, Armadillas are actually built in Britain and with an anticipated life span of 20 years+ the carbon footprint of an Armadilla is negligible. Excellent insulation and double glazing means superb thermal efficiency and low energy consumption. All timber products are FSC or PEFC standard, coatings low or no VOC and no biocides are used and all additional materials are ethically and responsibly sourced.

Is it easy to install?

The Armadilla doesn’t require foundations which means that it can be installed where other structures can’t (under trees, on slopes etc). Arriving fully assembled, it is simply lifted into position and after electrical connection is ready for use.
